Hi, I am Varun Joshi, a computer science and business intelligence undergrad at the University of Texas at Dallas. I have a love for problem solving and come with 5+ years of programming experience and have worked with Java, Python, C++, SQL, Dart, Perl, Bash, etc programming languages, and the Springboot, Flask, Pandas, Tensorflow, NLTK, Spacy, etc frameworks.

I also love on campus activities and am Education/Tech Officer at the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) at UTD, am the Projects Chair for the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) and am an Industry Coordinator for the AI Society at UTD. These organizations have exposed to me a vast amount of opportunities and have provided me with the chance to interact with and learn from the diverse student community.

My hobbies include Hiking, Tennis, Swinging by the beach, reading and attending conferences (Catch me at the Nvidia GTC 2021 and JuliaCon 2021). Currently, I am interested in and am working in the NLP, Data Analytics and ML domain and have worked in these domains in the past during my internships and projects.

The Summer Ahead: What I look forward to doing in the Next 3 Months

 A simple click and just like that at 11:00PM on a Friday night, I was done with the semester. Subsequently, I took a whole weekend to relax and plan how I was going to spend my next 3 months or 12 weeks before the Fall semester started. First and foremost, I will be spending a good chunk of my time on my internship from which I hope to learn a lot from in terms of the corporate work environment and the data engineering and NLP fields.
 In the past year, my love for the Python, Data Science and ML world has grown exponentially and with school out of the way I am going to dedicate a significant amount of time immersing myself in this world through Kaggle Projects, Research Papers, and more Tech Conferences. There is a JuliaCon upcoming in mid-June and an IBM ML conference in the first week of June that I am very excited to attend and learn from. The chance to network with and learn from some of the brightest minds in this field is extremely appealing too me and will expand my knowledge far more than any tutorial or article on the web can.
 Besides all the technical stuff that I am going to be doing over the summer I am also going to focus a lot on physical fitness especially going swimming, an activity I have not done since the semester started. Lastly, and the most importantly I will be having fun pursuing all these activities that I have planned to do over my three-month long break.

Metaflow and ML Infra

 The power of the internet is amazing. There is so much information out there and today it led me to discover this amazing resource that contains a lot of links for a variety of ML areas and ML Foundational topics. The link is: here.
 ML Infrastructure is a key area to ensure ML applications or projects run smoothly in production or are even brought into production. Netflix is one of the companies that recognized the importance of ML infrastructure and developed Metaflow. I would definitely recommend searching up and reading more about Metaflow, however a one line summary would be that it boosts the productivity of data scientists by handling data warehousing, computing resources, job scheduling, etc for ML applications and allowing the data scientist to bring these models straight to production.
 The best part of this library is that this is open source for everyone to use. I definitely would be experimenting with this in the future.
